One of the questions that I am frequently asked is “how and why did you become a Toastmaster”? The answer to the first part of the question, the HOW, is relatively simple. Having made the decision to formalise my training as a professional Toastmaster I applied to the United Kingdom School of Professional Toastmasters and was accepted onto their training course. This is an intensive and comprehensive but thoroughly enjoyable course and in addition to providing first class training provides an opportunity to meet with long established experts who are only to willing to pass on their knowledge and experience. The WHY part of the question is also quite straightforward. Having spent some 30 years in the Army it is not surprising that I was fully steeped in the traditions and customs of Service life and appreciated their importance in maintaining the military ethos. In one way they provided a common thread connecting the present with the past, helping to remind us of the sacrifices of those who had gone before. |

Today’s Toastmaster helps to preserve similar such customs and traditions but in a civilian rather than a military environment. It is perhaps, not surprising that I derive great satisfaction in being able to play my part in helping to ensure that these customs and traditions continue to survive both now and in the future. The skills, expertise and knowledge that I gained over my long and varied military career, coupled with the rigorous training required to qualify as a professional Toastmaster ensures that you can relax and enjoy yourself. Confident in the knowledge that all is being dealt with in a professional manner and that any last minute changes or mishaps will also be dealt with, with the utmost tact and diplomacy.
